The all new Mac Studio is fancy. It is much cheaper than buying the latest MacBook Pro. However, why do I need to buy it if I can buy a used MacBook Pro 2019 with Intel i9, AMD graphics and 1TB SSD for much less?

The 2019 MacBook Pro is almost perfect for me. I used to own the 2017 15 inch MacBook Pro, and it worked great for me. The reason why I bought it was because of bootcamp as I said before in Apple M1 a year ago. Bootcamp is still not supported on M1 machines and probably won’t be.

For many people, M1 works great, and I do agree because I am using an M1 Max machine for work. It is fast and silent. It works exceptionally well if it works, but this is the exact problem I have with M1 a year ago. What if something I use doesn’t work? I cannot take that chance.

Bootcamp was my backup plan because Windows works most of the time. As an iOS developer, I have to use Mac OS so I cannot simply use a Windows machine. This was why I bought the 2017 MacBook Pro. It runs Mac OS and Windows 10 so I can have everything. One for all.

This is why the 2019 16 inch model came into my sight. It is around $2,000 with 1TB SSD in 2022 and it is perfect for using Bootcamp. They will only get cheaper over time because M2 Pro and M2 Max will probably come out this year or next year. However, I still see values in older models simply because they can run Windows. The CPU is decent and fast enough. The GPU isn’t as powerful, but it is sufficient for my needs.

I don’t know what will happen moving forward. Intel is catching up this year with 12th gen processors. Qualcomm is working on a powerful ARM processor for Android. AMD has the best integrated graphics in laptops. Apple is putting two M1 Max together. This is getting interesting. Let’s wait and see.
