Another year, another boring event. Nothing is interesting since the iPhone X event. The notch this year is finally smaller but that notch is what stopping Apple. The new iPad mini is what iPhone 13 should be. Abandon the torch completely and move on with Touch ID and Type C. However, it is not enough. Apple can do better but they choose not to.
One day, I want the iPhone to be like a desktop but first, Type C is required. Apple can sell an expensive dock and support a desktop like environment or simply make it a larger iPhone like the iPad. I have talked about this in My vision for iPad OS
. Something similar can be done to the iPhone as well.
The new A15 Bionic chip is very powerful and way ahead of all Android phones. I guess even A14 is already ahead. Maybe, A13 as well? It is faster than my Snapdragon 865 at least. However, performance is never everything and I think after a certain point, it becomes irrelevant. Apple needs to do something new and truly innovative instead of merely improving the performance.
For me, I want to do more things on my device even if it is not perfect. Apple doesn’t want to take any risks. They also want to have something perfect. Usually, they put it on the iPad for a few generations before putting it on iPhone. I understand because iPhone is Apple’s life. If iPhone fails, Apple won’t end well.
However, that doesn’t mean Apple cannot try. They can release a beta feature only if the device is signed into a developer account. Apple is just not open enough. They don’t want people to know that they are not perfect as well just like any competitors. They built up this image for years and this is what stopping Apple from innovation.
That day is the day I will switch back to iPhone. I don’t see it coming at all but I can always wait.
We will probably see M1X or M2 devices soon and I think they will be great. I may get a new Mac mini if it is too good and reasonably priced. Apple has a big vision, way bigger than mine. There is nothing to worry about. If anyone, it is Apple. This is how much I trust Apple.
I may say how bad and rubbish Apple is but it is part of me. I am an Apple developer myself and developing iOS app is also my job. Apple is one of three life changing things in my life.
